I had fun reading Marked: A House of Night novel by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast. Quick, fun and sassy, this was a great weekend read.
Zoey Redbird’s world is a lot like our own, except that vampyres have always existed. She’s just been marked as a fledgling vampyre and has to go to a boarding school for her kind, The House of Night. She never really felt like she fit into “normal” life – at school or at home – and so she hopes that she can find friends and acceptance in her new school and in her new life. She’s in for a surprise, though, because she soon realizes that the Goddess Nyx, whom all vampyres worship, as marked her with special powers and a special future unlike any other. Zoey must learn quickly whom she can trust, how to harness her new powers, and how to handle the challenges and enemies she must now overcome.
Marked is an enjoyable ride through high school with the typical cliques, social issues and coming of age struggles, all wrapped up in a spooky vampyre package. Readers will identify with many of the characters, especially Zoey. The story moves quickly and purposely leaves many unresolved issues. Great for anyone who loves the Twilight Saga, but be aware that the book contains some suggestive language and sex.
